PhD topic and brief description

  • My PhD project concerns ‘Integrated optomechanics using 2D materials’. The aim is to realize novel opto-mechanical systems using Graphene and/or other 2D materials on Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) technology. Graphene is a perfect candidate for opto-mechanical systems because of its high stiffness, low mass and electrostatic tunability of its chemical potential. Graphene is also CMOS compatible, which allows us to exploit the advantages of the CMOS technology such as low cost and reproducibility. Proposed designs included graphene and other 2D material membranes suspended on photonic crystals and slot waveguides.
